Will we soon be able to order a driverless Uber vehicle? The American multinational Uber and the Chinese company Momenta, a leader in autonomous driving technology, have announced the deployment of "safe, scalable and efficient" robotaxis in Europe "in early 2026." These autonomous taxis will operate with "onboard safety operators," states the press release published on the Uber Investor website on Friday, May 2.
“We are excited to announce this strategic partnership with Momenta. This collaboration combines Uber’s global ride-sharing expertise with Momenta’s AI-powered self-driving technology, paving the way for a future where more passengers around the world enjoy the benefits of reliable and affordable autonomous mobility,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber.
Before arriving in Europe, Uber's first self-driving cars are expected to begin operating in Texas in late 2025, powered by technology from American startup May Mobility. Since its launch in 2010, the ride-hailing platform has logged more than 58 billion trips.
